Bedford, MA is a town in Middlesex County and was incorporated in 1729 from portions of Billerica and Concord, MA. Bedford is rich in history with several historic landmarks including The Elijah Stearns Mansion built in 1800 by Stearns and was a depiction of Federal architecture. He added a building to the property which was known as the Boston Cash Store, and it was the villages first store. Later it became the first post office, with Stearns the postmaster. In 1867 the building became the Bedford Public Library. The building was eventually moved to downtown and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Bedford is also home to the Bedford Flag- celebrated as the first battle flag that was flown during the American Revolutionary War, known as the oldest surviving battle flag, that is still intact and can be scene at the Bedford Public Library.
